| NOTES: The 96th SPS patch is probably the most common patch in my collection that generates feedback. Thus, an explanation is in order: This unit was stationed at Dyess AFB, TX from 1957-1993, at which time the 96th Wing was inactivated. This obviously explains the use of the star and longhorn steer in the patch's artwork. When the 96th Wing was reactivated in 1994, it was then located at it's current station of Eglin AFB, FL. However, since Security Police did not become Security Forces until 1997, the 96th Security POLICE Squadron was last stationed at Eglin AFB, until it was redesignated the 96th Security FORCES Squadron in 1997, as were all SP units. This is why the 96th SPS is listed as having been at Eglin AFB instead of Dyess AFB as it's last base of assignment. | ||
